Subject: ABE, Assessment, Community Planning, Counseling, Curriculum Development, ESOL, GED, Learning Disabilities, New Staff Orientation, Other Curriculum & Instruction, SMARTT, Technology
Description: This 10-hour course, in 3 parts, is required of all teaching staff new to ABE. During this course, practitioners will explore many facets of teaching in adult education programs funded by DESE such as: who are our adult learners and what are their goals and challenges, how to foster a critically reflective practice, effective teaching approaches, and adult learning theories. We will also review the essential elements of lesson planning: learning objectives, the MA ABE Curriculum Frameworks, authentic assessments, and a variety of classroom activities and teaching strategies. This is a three-part course, offered in the evening, and you must register for all three parts.
Part 1 is on Wednesday, May 1
Part 2 is on Wednesday, May 8
Part 3 is on Wednesday, May 15

Subject: Learning Disabilities
Description: This is a research-based professional development opportunity designed to increase the achievement of adults with diagnosed and undiagnosed learning disabilities. Advisors, counselors, teachers and directors are invited to attend.
Subject: Other Curriculum & Instruction
Description: There is a lot of talk about the “Common Core” and its relevance to our teachers, the GED 2014, how it connects to the frameworks. This workshop will look at one aspect of the Common Core – Math – and how it connects to the current work of ABE teachers.
