- A day of reflection and rejuvenation activities for ABE Practitioners with practical applications for the ABE classroom

This full-day event is designed to give ABE and ESOL practitioners an opportunity to reflect on their professional lives, including what they value in their work, what motivates them to continue, and ways to stay resilient. The day will begin with a reflective writing workshop followed by a choice of several indoor and outdoor activities. These will serve to rejuvenate the practitioner through continued reflection and contemplation, stress-reduction, physical activity, and/or creative exploration. The final activity will focus on integrating reflective practices into ABE/ESOL programs, and connecting teacher resilience to student persistence.
Lunch will be provided.
Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable clothes and to be prepared for any kind of weather, as the event will happen rain or shine.- When

- Tzivia Gover, Phil Lawrence, and SABES staff
- Presenters Bio
- Tzivia Gover, author of Mindful Moments for Stressful Days, leads workshops in creative writing, poetry and mindfulness. She specializes in workshops for students and staff in ABE/GED and ESOL settings. She developed a literature program for young mothers studying for their GED at The Care Center in Holyoke, Mass. She is a certified instructor of Proprioceptive Writng, a meditative writing practice, and has her MFA in creative writing from Columbia University. Phil Lawrence is a working artist and adjunct art professor at Holyoke Community College. His subject areas are basic design, drawing, sculpture and introduction to art. He holds a MEd and is a doctoral candidate in Language, Literacy and Culture at the School of Education, UMass. His areas of research are the intersection of art and language, pedagogy, and educational philosophy. He has worked in community education, ABE and has taught writing at UMass/UWW.
