Fractions can be fun! Come join us and discover how! This is part two of a two-part series on learning about and teaching fractions in ABE. There is an optional, third session on sharing what you have learned upon taking these materials back to the classroom.
Details
PLEASE NOTE that Fun with Fractions: Part One, (Content) will take place on February 6, 2009. Teacher to Teacher:Fractions will take place on March 13, 2009. Fractions can be fun – come join us to discover how! Stop fractions from frazzling you and befuddling your students! Come to a two-session math for literacy teachers series “Fun With Fractions (Decimals and Percents),” where you will collaborate in pairs and groups to picture, write about, and discuss the ways we represent, use and operate with fractions (and decimals and percents). Session 1: Content, invites you to explore several hands-on activities that illuminate key fraction concepts. Session 2: Instruction, includes demonstrations, discussions, and more activities designed to enhance your teaching of fractions, decimals and percents. Each session lasts 3 hours. There may be a brief assignment between Fraction Content and Fraction Instruction session. Bring a friend and enjoy the company of colleagues, as you gain new perspectives on familiar topics. These workshops are open to all and are suitable for ABE to GED, and ESOL teachers. (If you are interested in PDPs, you must take all three parts in this workshop series (Fun with Fractions: Part One, Fun with Fractions: Part Two and Teacher to Teacher: Fractions) and contact Michele at (msedor@hcc.mass.edu) BEFORE the first session for guidelines.)
