- This participatory workshops explores the multi-dimensions of teaching. It helps you gain a greater sense of connection to yourself, your work in the classroom, and in the possibility of resilience and contentment as a teacher.

- Why do you teach and what does it mean to be a teacher? How can you be more resilient and more fully present in both your teaching and with your students? What helps you sustain your interest, passion and work in the field of ABE? What does the heart of teaching mean to you? This participatory workshop explores the multiple dimensions of teaching. It helps you gain a greater sense of connection to yourself, your work in the classroom, and in the possibility of resilience and contentment as a teacher. This workshop draws upon educational theory and current inspired writings about the teaching profession as well as mindfulness practices and reflection.

By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
- Explain two new areas for self-exploration that will help them to sustain their teaching practice
- Define what teacher resilience means to them and how to support this for themselves
- Describe how they will incorporate teaching practices that will allow them to be more resilient and more fully present in their teaching
- Design visuals that illustrate how to create a more spacious and stress-free teaching and learning environment for both themselves and their students

- Presenters Bio
- Claire Stanley, Ph.D., is on the faculty of the SIT Graduate Institute in Brattleboro, VT. She has also taught workshops at Antioch College. She is a co-founder of the Center for Mindful Inquiry in VT, where she leads workshops and does consulting. Her work as an educator for the past 23 yers has focused on teacher development, interpersonal and intercultural communication in professional relationships and the role of mindful awareness in the quality and effectiveness of our work in the world. Michele Sedor has worked in the field of Adult Basic Education for over 20 years, both in teaching and professional development. She has worked at SABES West for the past 10 years. Most recently, she has been exploring mindfulness practices and stress reducing activities and their connections to teaching and learning.
