As a result of this training, participants will be able to:
- Describe the range of ABE student needs;
- Identify qualities of effective educational counselors and counseling;
- Recognize how counseling connects with programmatic issues;
- Explain legal obligations for learning accommodations; and
- Research, build and maintain referral networks and resource directory.

- Kellie Payne has been working with adult learners as an education counselor at the Massachusetts Career Development Institute in Springfield, MA for seven years. She has college degrees in both education and psychology.
