Overview
An overview of EXCEL operations and spreadsheets to assist ABE administrators in performing certain tasks.
Details
this 3-hour, hands on computer workshop will focus on using EXCEL for administrative tasks. Participants will review standard EXCEL formatting tools and a variety of templates for various functions. There will also be an opportunity to share effective uses of EXCEL for mailing, budgeting and attendance purposes.

Learning objectives

By the conclusion of the training, participants will be able to...

  • Create and format cells for multiple data types in basic Excel spreadsheets;
  • Develop basic formulas (such as addition, multiplication, division) within Excel that meet the needs of ABE program administrators and be able to locate help in Excel for more complex formulas;
  • Locate existing reports from SMARTT/COGNOS, import these reports to Excel and add basic formatting, and perform functions (e.g. sort data, insert columns or rows, etc.)
  • Locate relevant DOE budget documents on the web (such as Budget Detail Pages, Request for Funds form, Amendment Form, etc.) and save and edit these files; and
  • Format reports for printing, such as set print area, create header/footer, apply shading and borders, etc.

Charlie Herbert is Tech Coordinator for SABES West and uses MS Excel daily in his own work. As a former ABE teacher, he used Excel to teach math and taught Excel as part of information technology literacy. Jim Ayres is the Executive Director of CNA
