Overview
At the end of a long day, students can benefit from using a game to practice what has been taught during class. This workshop will introduce you to a variety of games and activities that students enjoy and provide good review of often boring material such as verb tenses, pronunciation, and spelling.
Details

You will receive a large handout with game samples, game boards, cards, and a list of additional adaptations and uses for each activity.     *Applicable for both ESOL and ABE teachers.

Learning objectives

  • have a deeper understanding of the role games can play in reinforcing learning.
  • be familiar with a variety of games that can be used to reinforce learning.
  • be able to adapt game formats to a variety of content.

Presenters Bio
Ellen has been teaching ESOL for the Quincy Adult and Continuing Education program since 1992. Since 1993 she’s been working with adult basic literacy learners at LVM-Quincy. She was also a YALD co-trainer with Janna Oddleifson for adult education programs and Dept. of Transitional Assistance workers. She participated in intensive training with Robin Schwarz in assessment of and strategies for teaching ESOL LD students. Specializing in teaching adult ESOL and basic literacy learners with learning disabilities, she is a SABES SE consultant for learning disabilities and a BEST Plus Assessment trainer.
