Details
Join Peggy O’Neill and Kathleen Howell for this interactive workshop. Peggy will discuss strategies for more effectively meeting the needs of your learners. Meet counselors from other regions and share your experiences. All participants will receive the “Introduction to Counseling in Adult Basic Education” manual and the “ABE Counselor’s Handbook” developed by counselors from Southeastern Massachusetts.

Learning objectives

Workshop participants will:

Ø      Learn about different strategies counselors can use to communicate with adult learners

Ø      Interpret local laws including those regarding confidentiality and mandated reporting

Ø      Recognize and develop a plan for essential partnership-building to support the ABE Counseling

Ø      Identify important linkages for a comprehensive resource directory to help students access needed services

Peggy O'Neill, Kathleen Howell
Presenters Bio
Peggy O’Neill is a licensed Social Worker and Mental Health Counselor with over 25 years experience in counseling. She was a child protective social worker with the Department of Social Services prior to starting in ABE in the Fall of 2003. Kathleen Howell is currently the Associate Coordinator for SABES SE in the areas of Workforce Development and Community Planning and has facilitated workshops on various related topics.
