Learning objectives

As a result of successfully completing this course, the participant will be able to:

  •  Identify strategies for creating a “classroom community” where learners feel comfortable and are willing to try new things with language.
  • Improve students’ speaking, reading, writing, and comprehension by selecting and creating materials that are relevant to students’ lives.
  • Use materials effectively to reach students in multi-level classrooms
  • Help students to increase vocabulary, both in class and outside the classroom.
  • Help students to improve their fluency and pronunciation.
  • Motivate students to take responsibility for their own language learning (so that it continues after they leave the classroom) by modeling simple strategies and free or low-cost activities
  • Create lesson plans that accommodate a variety of learning styles and include various teaching strategies.
