This 2-part series provides a comprehensive overview of adult English Language instruction and is designed for NEW adult ESOL practitioners.
As a result of successfully completing this course, the participant will be able to:
Identify strategies for creating a “classroom community” where learners feel comfortable and are willing to try new things with language.
Improve students’ speaking, reading, writing, and comprehension by selecting and creating materials that are relevant to students’ lives.
Use materials effectively to reach students in multi-level classrooms
Help students to increase vocabulary, both in class and outside the classroom.
Help students to improve their fluency and pronunciation.
Motivate students to take responsibility for their own language learning (so that it continues after they leave the classroom) by modeling simple strategies and free or low-cost activities
Create lesson plans that accommodate a variety of learning styles and include various teaching strategies.
