Subject: Learning Disabilities
Description: Unlocking the potential of adult students with learning differences is one of the major challenges faced by adult basic education students and program staff. In this workshop, participants will receive an introduction to the LD Guidebook (written by Kathleen Quinn and Janna Oddleifson) and identify strategies for encouraging its use by staff at ABE programs. This training is NOT designed to teach in depth about LD and the challenges they present to ABE students and staff, but rather to assist participants in helping staff at their programs make maximum use of the information contained in the Guidebook (which does include an overview of LD and ADD, LD and the law, LD screening, LD accommodations, instructional strategies, and LD resources). The workshop will provide each participant with tools and techniques to share what you have learned in a simple and straightforward way with other staff at your program.
