Statewide GED Orientation for New Teachers Session 1 of 2(NE)

Description: This two-session workshop will provide teachers, new to GED teaching and testing, with an overview of the GED tests. It will also give participants the opportunity to learn and practice various techniques which demonstrate potential promising practices in teaching a GED class, tips on preparing students for the GED essay, as well as hands-on practice with the official GED calculator.

Learning Objectives:

As a result of this workshop, participants will:

·         demonstrate an understanding of the content of  the GED tests

·         be able to access resources and use various teaching techniques in a GED classroom

·         gain experience in the use of the Casio FX 260, the official GED calculator

·         produce a lesson plan and offer/receive supportive feedback from the teacher and other participants in the workshop

·         share and appraise ideas, experiences, and opinions offered by peers in a supportive and collegial environment

·         have individual technical assistance in integrating newly learned techniques and content in your GED class

·         recognize various issues/challenges that GED teachers face in class, such as multi-level classes, open enrollment, unmotivated students, behavioral issues, etc. and will have tools to be able to deal with theses issues

·         be able to understand and holistically score a GED essay
