Instructional Foundations: ESOL Listening and Speaking (NE)

Description: ESOL learners come to our classes with the goal of improving both their listening skills and speaking ability in English. In this workshop participants will explore both listening and speaking as processes in meaning-making. Learn a variety of strategies which will help learners achieve competence and confidence in listening to, and speaking with others. This workshop is appropriate for ESOL Teachers, Counselors, and ESOL Program Directors

Learning Objectives:

As a result of attending this workshop participants will:

·        recognize the speaking/listening connection in ESOL instruction.

·        collect a variety of assessment tools to use in their classrooms

·        participate in a variety of activities that are useful for speaking/ listening instruction.

·        create and write a speaking/listening lesson using the newspaper as a resource.

·        present their lesson plans to the group and participate in a peer review
