Overview
This 3-hour workshop will demonstrate how to integrate the newly designed Financial Literacy Education toolkit modules into your ESOL/ ABE/GED lesson plans. The workshop will also provide an overview of various asset development resources available to adult learners such as the Earned Income Tax Credits and Individual Development Accounts (government matched savings accounts for income-eligible people to save for post secondary education, business capitalization or home purchases).
Details
It is more important now than ever to have the most current financial education information available to adult learners and practitioners. The myriad curriculum and resources available to teach Financial Literacy Education (FLE) can be overwhelming for ABE practitioners interested in teaching this subject in their program. How do you know which topics are relevant to adult learners and if the curriculum is geared toward that audience? The Institute on Assets and Social Policy at Brandeis University has taken the guess work out! Researchers at the Institute have reviewed the most popular FLE curriculum and used the best of the best to develop a Financial Literacy Toolkit designed specifically for use with adult learners. This 3-hour workshop will demonstrate how to integrate the toolkit modules into your ESOL/ABE/Pre-GED/GED lesson plans. The workshop will also provide an overview of various asset development resources available to adult learners such as the Earned Income Tax Credits and Individual Development Accounts (government matched savings accounts for income-eligible people to save for post secondary education, business capitalization or home purchases).
