Volunteer Management

Description: This workshop will focus on special topics in volunteer management, including program planning, recruitment, screening, training, supervision, and recognition. The workshop will introduce theory and research relevant to volunteer management, as well as allow for sharing of best practices among the participants. It is appropriate for beginning and experienced volunteer coordinators.

Learning Objectives:

As a result of attending this workshop participants will be able to:

  1. Explain the relevance of a philosophy of volunteer management;
  2. Differentiate targeted recruitment from open-ended recruitment, and name at least three methods for each;  
  3. Describe the key components of a volunteer screening policy and identify the level of screening required in their organization; 
  4. Describe at least three motivations for volunteering and a method of supervision and recognition appropriate for each motivational type.
