- Overview
- This workshop will focus on special topics in volunteer management, including program planning, recruitment, screening, training, supervision, and recognition. The workshop will introduce theory and research relevant to volunteer management, as well as allow for sharing of best practices among the participants. It is appropriate for beginning and experienced volunteer coordinators.

As a result of attending this workshop participants will be able to:
- Explain the relevance of a philosophy of volunteer management;
- Differentiate targeted recruitment from open-ended recruitment, and name at least three methods for each;
- Describe the key components of a volunteer screening policy and identify the level of screening required in their organization;
- Describe at least three motivations for volunteering and a method of supervision and recognition appropriate for each motivational type.

- Margaret Anderson has worked as the Volunteer Coordinator at The Literacy Project in western Massachusetts since 1997. She serves on the Advisory Board of the ACT Community Volunteer Center, a community-based volunteer referral program serving three counties in western Massachusetts.
