Description: The Massachusetts DESE Goal Setting Policy gives us the opportunity to report many student successes such as "Get a learner's permit to drive", that are significant accomplishments for our students. This workshop has been updated to include information on the newest list of student goals now found on the student intake form, the current performance standards, and available resources and is designed to help teachers, directors, counselors, and other program staff understand and implement the Countable Outcomes Policy.

Others will look to them to set the stage for change and to guide required changes as well as innovative changes that improve services and the working environment, yet may not be mandated. In this six-hour training, ABE administrators consider five main topics: 1. the difference between management and leadership 2. personal leadership style 3. visions and plans for ABE programs 4. the process of managing change, and 5. leadership challenges and opportunities

Description: Responding to the increasing concern to provide a “bridge to college” math, current GED level classes need expanding opportunities in algebra, geometry, and trigonometry. Using a math bundle developed by TIAN, (Teachers Investigating Adult Numeracy) participants will explore algebra connections using physical models to find patterns and to get at the algebra of “realistic” situations.
