Learning objectives

As a result of participating in this workshop participants will be able to:

  • describe what the SCANS, Equipped for the Future, National Skills Standards, and the MA Work-Based Learning Plan are and how they relate to the classroom and the workplace
  • identify means for teaching workplace competencies through instructional strategies and classroom management techniques
  • identify and explain at least one active learning strategy that encourages each of the following:  reflection, awareness of how skills transfer, and assessment of competencies
  • analyze and evaluate their current instructional strategies and classroom management techniques for their effectiveness in teaching job readiness skills
  • develop a plan, based on the evaluation of their classroom, to improve their effectiveness in teaching job readiness skills by incorporating new strategies and techniques learned

Presenters Bio
Martha has over 15 years experience in workforce development and adult basic education. As a consultant, she works with community-based organizations on the design and implementation of integrated employment and training programs and also conducts statewide staff trainings.
