- Overview
- With evidence abounding that a worker in Massachusetts must have at least some post-secondary education to earn a family-sustaining wage, the GED diploma is a vital door-opener for those 700,000 Massachusetts adults who do not have a high school credential. However, the GED diploma is often not enough: a critical mass of GED graduates perform poorly on the AccuPlacer test, are placed into remedial college courses from which they never emerge, and do not have the skills to succeed once they enter college courses. This workshop will lay out practical steps for creating a successful pre-GED and GED curriculum that will carry the GED student towards the GED diploma with all due speed while suggesting curriculum enhancements that will improve the chances of success for GED graduates on the AccuPlacer Test and in college classes. It is intended for GED program directors, curriculum planners, and classroom teachers.
