Do you have ESOL learners in your classes that are struggling? Do you find yourself at a loss as to how to help them? By attending this workshop you will learn some new strategies, ideas and techniques to enhance your ability to teach the ESOL and LD learner in your classes.

Learning Objectives:
- use the ESOL and learning disabilities screening questionnaire (developed by RObin Schwarz) to guide the evaluation of ESOL learners for possible learning problems
- explain why alternative approaches to determining Learning Disability issues in ESOL learners are needed
- describe how health issues, culture, characteristics of the first language can negatively impact learning apart from learning disabilities and be misconstrued as a learning disability
- identify several tools for evaluating phonological awareness skills
- use the main principles of LD appropriate instruction to meet the needs of ESOL learners with learning disabilities
