Marketing ABE Services to Local Businesses (1 of 2, Boston)

Overview
This new workshop will give you the tools and techniques to approach potential business partners with comfort, confidence and effectiveness. You will also learn about the various funding sources for workplace education, the benefits to your ABE program of partnering with businesses, and will hear first hand from ABE and CBO program representatives about their experiences with forming business partnerships.
Details
Part 1 of the workshop (12/1/08) will be facilitated by Patricia Pelletier, former ABE Director who developed and directed workplace education and skills training programs for many years and Michele Chausse, Communications Specialist who has worked extensively with non-profits and the business sector. Part 2 of the workshop (12/8/08) will be a panel of presenters who share experience/information on where to look for funding sources or how to approach businesses and funders.

Learning objectives

After completing the 2-session workshop, participants will be able to:

1) Understand the benefits and importance of enhancing ABE programs by partnering with businesses.

2) Identify the kinds of businesses that make appropriate ABE partners.

3) Use proven communications tools and techniques to approach potential businesses with comfort, confidence and effectiveness.

4) Identify funding sources to support adult basic education programs (i.e. Workforce Training Fund, DOE Workplace Education funding, Commonwealth Corporation, etc.).

Presenters Bio
Patricia Pelletier is the NE SABES Workforce Development and Community Planning Specialist and is a non-profit consultant. Patricia provides consultation in nonprofit management, development (grant writing, fund-raising), budgeting, community and strategic planning and program design for federal, state and local nonprofit organizations. She is a former ABE Director and Workplace Education Program Director. Michele Chausse is a communications specialist. Michele has experience working in both the private and non profit sectors. She is currently the Communications and Development Director at Health Quarters in Beverly.
