Overview
Women Leading Through Reading Discussion Circles (Circles) provide an alternative learning environment using group reading, facilitated discussion, and reflective writing for women needing or using adult basic/literacy education services. Based on the experiences of "book clubs," women learners connect their reading and discussion to issues and concerns important for their lives as women and adult learners. Although the Circles are designed for women adult learners, the model is flexible and can be used in any adult literacy context. This interactive workshop will present how the Circles are organized and facilitated. In addition, the presenter will demonstrate methods to integrate current curriculum structures, assessment components, writing skills and civic participation content into the Reading Discussion Circles.
