Curriculum Sharing Day (Boston)

May 16, 2008 11:30 AM - 4:00 PM
Description: Join other Boston-area ABE and ESOL teachers and program staff as they ask questions, provide answers, pose challenges and share successes about their unique curriculum development processes. The day will be structured so as to encourage an authentic conversation about the concrete and big picture issues related to programs' individual curriculum development as well as to support teachers and other program staff to take the next steps that they deem necessary on their curriculum development journey. There will be some overview of curriculum development provided. Mostly, the day will revolve around facilitated whole group and small group discussion around topics that may include: successes and challenges that programs have faced as they develop and refine their curriculum; curriculum as a work-in-progress, program uniqueness and how it affects or defines the curriculum, the role of students in curriculum development, aligning curriculum with the Massachusetts Department of Education's Curriculum Frameworks, etc. In addition, there will be time and room to share units or curriculum documents, if participants are interested. Still, the emphasis of the day will be on the process of curriculum development and addressing questions such as: what have we done so far to capture what we do in the class-why and how?, what is still missing? what do we think are the next steps in our development process? what resources and supports do we need to make that happen? The SABES librarian will be on hand to offer material from the state-wide library. LUNCH WILL BE SERVED!
