May 9, 2008 1:30 PM - 4:00 PM
Description: This workshop is one of the Multicultural Competency series that ALRI/Boston SABES is now constructing on a pilot basis to meet the increasing needs for multicultural resources or skills by teachers, counselors and administrators in culturally diverse ABE/ESOL programs. As a new immigrant from a Muslim country, the presenter will identify and explain some major features of the Middle East cultures and diversity. She will address issues that students from the Arabic-speaking part of the Middle East will encounter in the ESOL classroom. Also on the agenda will be a discussion between the presenter and participants on the “DOs” and “DON'Ts” within the Middle East cultures.
