LD Foundations: Awareness and Strategies--session #1 of 2 (Bos)

January 18, 2008 9:30 AM - 12:30 PM
Description: Many times in our ABE/ESOL programs we have students who struggle and it's not clear if we're dealing with a learning disability, language acquistion problem, or other issue. This two-session mini-course provides an opportunity to learn, in the first session, about the different types of learning disabilities that exist and how they manifest themselves in the ABE/ESOL learner. In the second session, you will learn specific techniques for teaching adult LD learners to read and write, as well as techniques for teaching and supporting them in the subject areas. Participants will also learn to construct multi-sensory activities that provide learners with classroom practice in a variety of phonics and grammar tasks, and you'll acquire some skill in creating activities that can be used independently by your students to reinforce classroom learning.
