Overview
This 3-hour workshop will introduce the major components of the Massachusetts WFD system. If you are an ABE/ESOL teacher or other ABE practitioner, this workshop will help you, your students and your program understand workforce development and connect better with local career centers, workforce investment boards, job training programs and other WFD system opportunities in order to help students reach their employment goals. This is an IPQ4 workshop.

PDPs are available for participants who will also participate in the Career Awareness workshop (two sessions, January 2008) and the Job-Readiness workshop (April 2008).

As a result of this workshop, participants will be able to:

- Understand the basic elements of the workforce development system and its relevance for ABE learners and programs

- Take first steps to integrate job-and-career-related materials into the ABE classroom

- Assist ABE learners in first steps towards getting a job or getting a better job

Laurie Sheridan is the statewide Workforce Development Coordinator for SABES. Ellen Mason is a Career Counselor at The Workplace in Boston.
