Subject: Counseling
Description: Come and share your success and/or difficulties implementing the Career and Education Plans with your students. If you’ve created your own forms that you would like to share, we’d be happy to see them. This sharing group is open to counselors and any other staff who are interested. We’d be interested in hearing from people who attended the Appreciative Advising training and are open to discussing any other issues that you would like to share, including topics for future sharing groups and training topics that would help you in your counseling role. The group welcomes anyone who is a counselor/advisor or who does counseling/advising at an adult basic education program.

Subject: New Staff Orientation
Description: This 10-hour face-to-face mini-course is required for all new teachers at adult basic education programs funded by the MA Dept. of Elementary and Secondary Education. During this course practitioners will explore many facets of teaching in adult education programs, such as: who are our adult learners and what are their goals, how can we foster critically reflective practice, what does effective teaching look like, and what theorists have influenced adult education. We will also review the essential elements of lesson planning: learning objectives, the MA ABE Curriculum Frameworks, authentic assessments, and a variety of classroom activities and teaching strategies.) This is the first of two sessions. The second will be held on May 23, 2013.

Subject: Curriculum Development
Description: As a follow up to "Using Graphing Calculators for Algebraic Representation," participants will share the results of their assignments and will do activities in using the calculators to organize and analyze data.
